An Annotated Bibliography of American Art and Artists: 1900-1950
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 10 page annotated bibliography summarizing ten articles discussing American art and artists in from 1900-1950. A literature review of American art and artists spanning the first half of the 20th century generally falls within two areas of study: the influence of the international market and perception on American art primarily based in New York; and, the important movement of the African American artists which were promoted and funded for the first time in the first half of the 20th century. Generally, according to art historians and critics, American art during the first half of the 20th century is almost disregarded while the pop and commercial movements in the second half of the 20th century are highlighted in most European exhibitions. Also from an international perspective, very little regard is made in the way of the contribution of women and minority artists; an oversight which is slowly being resolved in recent years.
